Requirements:

College of Maritime Operational Warfare . The position is located in the College of Maritime Operational Warfare (CMOW). CMOW provides maritime operational level of war education in order to improve the ability of U.S. Navy Fleet Commanders and their staffs to plan, prepare, and employ naval, joint, and combined forces across the range of military operations.

Deputy Dean, College of Maritime Operational Warfare . The Deputy Dean, CMOW is responsible for the oversight and management of assigned faculty, staff, and resources to execute CMOW courses and other Fleet support activities. These include the Joint and Combined Force Maritime Component Commander courses (JFMCC/CFMCC), the Executive Level Operational Level of War Course (ELOC), the Maritime Operational Planner Course (MOPC), the Maritime Staff Operator Course (MSOC), the International Maritime Staff Operator Course (IMSOC) and the Maritime Headquarters Staff Course (MHSC). Additionally, CMOW maintains the Assist and Assess Team (AAT), a deployable group of active-duty service members, augmented by CMOW civilian faculty, who work closely with the Naval Warfare Development Center's MOC Training Team to provide direct assistance to Fleet staffs and other Navy commands, as requested.

Duties and Responsibilities. The Deputy Dean, CMOW, provides leadership for academic and administrative operations, ensuring that the CMOW courses and operations meets the student outcomes required by Navy Fleet staffs. The Deputy Dean directly supervises and evaluates five faculty members and two administrative staff, and coordinates CMOW operations within the Naval War College (NWC), with Navy Fleet Staffs, other Service War Colleges, and other partners as required. The Deputy Dean teaches selected seminars as the schedule allows and maintains professional currency in his/her field of expertise by attending appropriate professional conferences, conducting and/or supervising research, and by publishing in his/her field of knowledge. The Deputy Dean attends NWC-wide boards, councils, and leadership meetings as required, and coordinates routinely with NWC Deans, Deputy Deans, Chairs, Associate Provosts, and Staff
Directors. As time permits, the Deputy Dean may also participate as faculty in the NWC Electives program, as a subject matter expert in War Games, or in other NWC-led conferences, seminars, or activities. In the Dean's absence, the Deputy Dean may be required to represent the Dean in dean-level matters at the College.

Qualifications. The President seeks candidates with a track record of successfully leading and managing large organizations and who have practical experience in a Joint or Navy Operational-Level Headquarters. A Master's Degree in Security Studies, International Relations, History, Political Science, or related field; and Joint Professional Military Education (Phase I) are required. The ideal candidate will have experience managing organizations, budgets, and leading a diverse group of faculty and staff; overseeing financial and human resources; in-residence teaching experience at the graduate level (preferably with senior and/or intermediate-level joint or service colleges) in the fields of National Security, Strategy, or Joint Operations; knowledge of curriculum development techniques and advanced distributed learning methods/emerging education technologies; competence in internet-based instruction; and an understanding of the mission the NWC accomplishes for the Navy and the Department of Defense.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and be capable of obtaining a Department of Defense Top Secret/SCI security clearance. The selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment drug screening test and to random drug testing thereafter.
