Description:

This is a Direct Hire Authority solicitation utilizing the DHA for the Department of Defense Prevention Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: The Supervisory Prevention Specialist (Prevention Lead) (Prevention Workforce) serves as the Senior Commander's expert on prevention science and data-driven recommendations to improve the prevention system, address harmful behaviors, and create protective military communities.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Supervisory Prevention Specialist (Prevention Lead) (Prevention Workforce):

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the behavioral or social sciences, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as prevention science or public health.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience conducting analysis of existing capabilities and resources to identify factors that inhibit implementation and evaluation of prevention activities; researching proposed approaches to prevention to ensure they are evidence-informed and will result in decreases of harmful behavior; supporting ongoing prevention policy development and refinement that supports the local prevention system and provides for evaluation of prevention strategy and activities ; AND building the prevention capacity of the community through activities at the individual, interpersonal/family/unit, organizational, community and societal levels.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
