You will serve as a WOODCRAFTER in the Preservation Shop (Code 970), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.Requirements:

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION
- Experience fabricating, repairing, assembling, and installing wooden items such as furniture, deck structures, accommodation ladders, workbenches, bridge deck coverings, laminated plastics, and hardboard insulation coverings, both aboard vessels and in buildings.
- Experience operating wood preservation and fireproofing facilities.
- Experience constructing covers for small boat storage and sets up, adjusts, and operates a wide variety of woodworking machinery, ranging from light to heavy and simple to complicated, for the milling and production of wood and plastic products.
- Experience interpreting blueprints, plans, sketches, manufacture's and military specifications and utilizing shop or trade mathematics which includes simple geometry.
- Setting up and adjusting simple and complex machinery such as bandsaw, ripsaw, cut-off saw, ship angling saw, jointer, drill press, and similar tools.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
