Description:

The full performance, Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) generalist is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. The duty location will be in Garner, NC (Urgent Care). This position serves as an advance technician for out patient care settings such as: primary care, mental health, urgent care, and specialty clinics. As an ICT generalist you may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic or mobile medical unit.

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) : The ( Intermediate Care Technician/ GS-0640-07 ) requires an Individual Occupation Requirement that will need to be met in order to be considered. Please see IOR requirement below:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

OR

For GS-3 : Successful completion of l year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields.
For GS-4 : Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position.
For GS-5 : Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.

In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirement above, the Specialized Experience below is required to be met in order to be considered for the position.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Working knowledge of topographic anatomy, e.g., right/left, surface, proximal/distal, superior, inferior, to accurately transmit location information about the body. Working knowledge of diagnostic signs, e.g., pulse, respiration, blood pressure, temperature, skin color, pupils of the eyes, state of consciousness, ability to move on command, reaction to pain, etc., to perform patient evaluation, to provide patient care, and to ensure appropriate patient handling. Knowledge of medications (their uses, doses, side effects, adverse effects, and toxicity signs) sufficient to properly administer drugs even when directed to do so by the licensed staff. Knowledge of proper dosages required in keeping with method of administration. Demonstrates knowledge of isolation techniques and universal precautions. Knowledge of major psychiatric conditions, depressive, anxiety, bipolar and substance use disorders, and schizophrenia. Knowledge of the components of suicide risk assessment, warning signs, environmental safety, and referral.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience, but the education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
