Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer - Vehicle
Compensation: $50-70/hour
Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities:


  • Create mechanical designs that fulfill functional requirements.
  • Manage all stages of the design and fabrication process, including initial concept design, prototyping, 3D modeling, detailed design, production drawings for manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Lead design reviews internally and with external vendors and fabricators.
  • Collaborate with Disney fabricators or external machine shops to ensure successful production of designs.
  • Test and refine proof-of-concept designs, adapting requirements and designs as the team gains insights.
  • Determine future project builds
Basic Qualifications:

  • Over 6 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks is required
  • Experience with simulation tools like Houdini and Maya
  • Extensive mechanical design experience, preferably in vehicle or automotive design.
  • Experience in designing and building complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) with expertise in parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and the ability to fabricate designs at a prototype level.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as plating, milling, turning, EDM, and grinding.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible as the team learns through prototyping and playtesting, adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Experience in managing fabrication vendors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other technical and creative disciplines.
  • Ability to provide clear direction and feedback to team members.
  • Strategic and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with actuator design, motor selection, and sizing.
  • Knowledge of materials science and metallurgy.
  • Experience in designing and fabricating with flexible materials.
  • Proficiency in complex surface modeling.
  • Experience with kinematic motion analysis.
  • Structural FEA experience.
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Expertise in sheet metal and weldment design.
  • Experience with Matlab, Simulink, or Python.
  • Industrial design experience, with the ability to pair aesthetic form with function
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • A desire to continuously improve and adapt to new technologies.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.


Estimated Min Rate: $43.75
Estimated Max Rate: $62.50
